So without wasting anytime, let’s get to the point – FOOD! Yes, we all want it, and we want it good! Here’s what I say – we Indians love food and our festivals (literally) call for dishes, desserts, chow, grub – the taste bud setters!
That’s why Bindaas has brought for you the Set of 5 Dining Glass Bowls with Lids this Diwali & I’ve got for you some simple 5-step recipes. Even the worse cooks will thank me for this :) So, go on – cook your food & then store it, stack it – in the ultimate Dining Glass Bowl Set ever!
Recipe 1: Gajar ka halwa
Ingredients:
Grated carrot                                                                1 kg
Milk                                                                             1 Litre
Whole dried milk (mawa)                                             200 gm
Sugar                                                                            2 cups
Ghee                                                                             2 tbsp
Dry fruits (sliced almond and cashew nuts, raisin )          1/2 cup
Cardamom powder                                                       1/2 cup
Steps:
1. Put milk and grated carrots in a heavy base deep saucepan (kadhai) and bring it to boil. Cook over medium heat until all the milk gets dried up. You should stir the mixture occasionally to prevent any sticking.
2. Add sugar, cardamom (daalchini) powder, 1/4 cup dry fruits and continuously stir for 5-7 minutes.
3. Add ghee and mawa. Stir well and fry on low heat until ghee starts separating.
4. Decorate with remaining dry fruits.
5. Serve hot in the small Bindaas Glass Bowl!
Recipe 2: Gulab Jamun
Ingredients:
Whole dried milk (mawa)                     1 cup
Refined flour                                         2 tbsp
Sugar                                                   1-1/2 cup
Baking powder                                    1/4 tsp
Cardamom powder                             1/4 tsp
Water                                                  3 cup
Ghee                                                   As per need
Steps:
1. Mix sugar, water and cardamom powder and cook until the syrup becomes thick.
2. Mix mawa, refined flour, baking powder and water and make soft, smooth dough (Water should be just sufficient for kneading a smooth dough).
3. Make small balls of equal size. Be sure that the balls (jamun) are smooth and no crack develops. Keep aside.
4. Heat ghee in a kadhai / deep frying pan.
5. Deep fry the balls over medium heat until golden brown.
6. Put the balls in hot syrup and keep aside for 10-12 minutes.
7. Gulab Jamuns are ready. Warm before serving in the medium-sized Bindaas Glass Bowl!
Recipe 3: Sooji ka halwa
Ingredients:
Steps:
Semolina (Sooji)                                 1/2 cup
Sugar (to taste)                                   1/4 cup
Ghee                                                   1/4 cup
Water                                                  1 cup  
Cardamom powder                             1/4 tsp
Raisins                                                 1 tbsp 
Sliced almonds                                    2 tbsp
Steps:
1.Mix sugar & water in a pan. Heat over low flame. Bring it to boil & set aside.
2.Heat ghee in a kadhai. Add sooji, raisins and cardamom powder and fry until it is very light golden brown in color. Constantly stir it to ensure even browning.
3.Add sugar water (syrup) and mix rapidly to prevent lump formation.
4.Cook over medium heat until the water gets completely absorbed.
5.Decorate with sliced almonds in the large Bindaas Glass Bowl and serve hot!

  • Rama returned to Ayodhya: According to the Ramayana, Diwali marks the end of Lord Rama’s fourteen year long exile and his return to Ayodhya after vanquishing the demon lord Ravana and conquering Lanka. The citizens of Ayodhya lit thousands of lamps to guide his flying vimana. The darkest night of the year gave way to a glorious morning as Rama returned with his wife and brothers to his ancestral kingdom.

  • Goddess Lakshmi: The Goddess of wealth, Lakshmi was incarnated on this new moon day during the churning of the ocean (samudra-manthan.) Hence she is worshipped on this day.

  • Vishnu rescued Lakshmi: On this day Lord Vishnu in his fifth incarnation as Vaman-avtaara rescued Lakshmi from King Bali’s captivity. This is another reason why Goddess Lakshmi is worshipped on Diwali.
  • Krishna Killed Narakaasura: On the day preceding Diwali, Lord Krishna killed the demon king Narakaasura and rescued thousands of captive women. The victory and the freedom of the women were celebrated for two days, including the day of the Diwali festival.

  • The Return of the Pandavas: The Pandavas, in the great epic, Mahabharata, According to the great epic 'Mahabharata', appeared from their 12 years of banishment as a result of their defeat in the hands of the Kauravas on a 'Kartik Amavashya'. Their return was celebrated by their subjects by lighting earthen lamps along the way.

  • Coronation of Vikramaditya: King Vikramaditya, one of the greatest Hindu ruler of all times, was coroneted on the day of Diwali. Therefore, Diwali enjoys a royal patronage too!
