The intelligent idiot box
Bahut Purana Janam:
This is a story of a love-sick girl. 1950’s ki baat hai. Ek thi Manju. A young 16-year-old living in the narrowgaliyaan of Ballimaran. Flaring saree, round face and two plaits. Loved golgappe and rickshaw rides. She loved her pitaji and her maa. But more than anything, Manju loved Dilip Kumar. She would dream of him day and night, night and day.
Let his movie release and our young dreamer would wrestle to buy a ticket in black. Even if it cost her a month’s savings! Her pitaji and maa would be furious with jawaan ladki cinemaing. So, whenever a new movie released they would lock her up for a day or two. Poor Manju – before she got unlocked, the movie would be gone. She could never watch what she wanted. She’d dream of jumping off a cliff only to be saved by her pyaara Dilip at the edge. Alas, her dreams remained unfulfilled behind closed doors and life passed on…
Purana Janam:
1980’s. Ballimaran again. More crowded. Manju still 16, choodidaar and black shiny jooda. Still loving her daddy and mummy. But more than anything, in love with (sigh!) Amitabh Bachchan. She would never miss the first day, first show of AB’s film. In fact, first day first, second and third shows (she couldn’t risk the fourth, Daddy would find out and kill her).
But her love for Amitji could not be quenched by a movie or two. So after her cinema-mania, Manju would pursue her passion at home, watching TV all the time – Amitji ki ek jhalak mil jaaye! However, the idiot box came with its restrictions – one couldn’t watch what one wanted to. Manju was at the mercy of Doordarshan. Wait and watch, watch and wait – and life passed on…
New Janam:
2010 A.D. Meet Manju. Flying skirts and bouncing hair. Loves her pop; he got her an LCD TV. Loves mom; she got her the RMVV Player. But more than anything, she loves SRK. Whenever his movie releases, she hits her private home-theatre with LCD TV and RMVB Player TV Card Reader.
Manju simply plugs in her pen-drive or hard-disk, all containing SRK movies into the RMVB Player and watches videos, music, photos, e-books, etc. on her LCD TV. Not only that, she also watches HD and Blu-ray videos on her LCD screen – all thanks to her RMVB Player. Gone are the days of dreaming and waiting. Manju watches whatever she wants on her TV – instantly.
Sometimes she just borrows someone’s memory card loaded with SRK hits and straight into the RMVV Playerthe card goes. The player supports various audio and video formats and comes with a remote control. Life’s so much easier and loving her janam-janam ka saathi so much simpler!
Finally RMVV Player has made the two janmon se bichhde lovers meet. Punar janam mein Manju’s milan.
~The End~
